Obed and Jean Marie

Dear Birth Mother,

Thank you for taking time to get to know us a little bit and learn about whether we might be a good fit for your child.  Although we imagine it is immensely difficult at times, we feel so grateful for your courage to pursue adoption because we know you and your child will bless someone’s life forever.  We will pray that you can feel continued strength, peace, and love!

Our names are Obed and Jean Marie.  We live in Muncie, very close to Ball State University, in a nice home we bought in 2015.  We are both professors at the university, we walk to work on the days that we teach, and we spend a good amount of time together at home (our favorite place to be): cooking, working, watching documentaries, riding bikes, eating ice cream, and enjoying each other – even if some of our time is spent running errands or doing yard work.  We just really love each other!  We feel safe and happy and “at home” around each other.

Obed and I met in Mexico in 2012 – I was doing my PhD at the University of South Carolina and traveled to Mexico City for my dissertation research.  We met at a church dance one Friday night.  Obed swung me away to the tune of Salsa music and the rest was history. (: We married about a year later.  We return to Mexico at least once or twice a year to see Obed’s family and the area where he grew up.  Eating tacos and going on road trips through the Mexican countryside can’t be beat!  We’ve been really lucky to be able to travel and see the world.  Collectively, we’ve seen over 20 different countries!

We are very excited to welcome a little child to our family and will always try to be loving, understanding, gentle, and supportive parents.  We’ve been blessed by excellent examples in our parents and want to give our child the same kind of fun, happy childhood that we remember.
